About Us

Rangelands WA is a non-government organisation which represents community needs and encourages the sustainable use of land, flora and fauna, fresh water and coastal marine environments.

With the rangelands area producing more than 88 percent of Western Australian’s mining activities and contributing significantly to the Western Australia’s gross domestic product, Rangelands WA strives to balance the needs of the environment with the needs of those who use the land and water resources.

In order to facilitate the integrated delivery of Natural Resource Management (NRM) priority issues, the Australian Government, in association with state and territory governments, identified 56 regions covering all of Australia.

Rangelands WA is one of six regional NRM groups originally established in Western Australia in accordance with the agreement between the Australian and Western Australian Governments to deliver the Natural Heritage Trust (NHT) and the National Action Plan for Salinity and Water Quality (NAP) programs, and the National Landcare Program (NLP) which now all comes under the banner of Caring for our Country.

Caring for Our Country
Caring for our Country (CfoC) is the Australian Government's new natural resource management initiative.  Caring for our Country is designed as an integrated package with one clear goal, a business approach to investment, clearly articulated outcomes and priorities and improved accountability.

Caring for our Country commenced on 1 July 2008 and aims to integrate delivery of the Commonwealth's previous natural resource management programs, the Natural Heritage Trust, the National Action Plan for Salinity and Water Quality, the National Landcare Program, the Environmental Stewardship Program and the Working on Country Indigenous land and environment program.
